Sunday Gatherings

How We Do Church

Following Jesus means choosing practices and making decisions that help us love God, ourselves, and our neighbors. These practices and decisions can take the form of structures – Sunday services, how we pray, weekly home groups, public outreaches, etc. Throughout history, we’ve learned that our church structures have the power to bring spiritual renewal, breathe life, deepen relationships, and bring inner healing; but, these structures also have the power to segregate, alienate, disenfranchise, and harm others (e.g., patriarchy, racism, colonization).

At Table San Diego, we believe that structures exist for people, not the other way around. Our theology and liturgy center BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people, while holding space for white, cisgender, and heterosexual allies to learn and belong. Our structure is a Spirit-filled, story-driven space to know and be known, to love and be loved – and ultimately, to grow. Our structure breaks away from the traditional Western mold (i.e., sitting and consuming content from pastoral leadership), and allows for communal imagination.

Table’s structures and practices aren’t for everyone. We hope our space is life-giving, helping you both belong and grow as a follower of Jesus. Below is a snapshot of what you can expect.

Table’s Sunday Gatherings | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm PST

Location: Our church meets at people’s private homes. Sign-up for our weekly newsletter to get the address & details! You can also virtually connect with us via Zoom link from 11am-12pm.

10:00 am – 11:00 am – Blessing and Potluck Meal (1 hour)

Through organic connection, we practice the sacrament of communion by having a meal together, catching up on life, and prayerfully sharing how we’re doing.

11:00 am – 11:10 am – Welcome, Centering Prayer (10 min)

Through embodiment practices like meditation, the Holy Scriptures, poetry and art art, or musical worship, we orient our bodies and souls towards our Creator, Creation, and Community.

11:10 am – 11:50 am – Teaching, Communal Imagination (30 min)

We learn content related to our theme for the season. Then, we break into small groups to process takeaways and questions. Afterwards in a large group, we share insights and hopes God might be bringing up for us.

11:50 am – 12:00 pm – Closing Prayer, Announcements (5 min)

We conclude with a final blessing and share upcoming happenings.
